Eat a wide variety. So you’ve got the green light to eat what you want (in moderation – see related article) so does that mean you can eat a cheeseburger, fries, and a shake every day if that’s what you want? Absolutely not. You need to change it up and avoid eating the same foods all the time. Corn on the cob doused in butter may be the only vegetable you like but that is too bad. You need to develop a taste for a wide variety of vegetables (that aren’t fried and disguised) and eat them daily.
Same goes with fruits; go to a good grocery store and try some new fruits. Buy the best quality freshest produce possible since this can make a huge difference in quality of taste and nutrition. Canned fruits in heavy syrups are for occasional, or out of season, consumption and should not be part of your daily intake.
Whenever possible eat your food the way God made it. Men have a bad habit of eating what is easy, which can mean a lot of processed meats, snack foods, and frozen dinners. Nothing wrong with this once in a while but you need to work in lean chicken, fresh fish, and even meatless dishes weekly.
A lot of people get habit-dishes, especially when it comes to breakfast and lunch at work. If you’re eating sausage and eggs for breakfast, ham and cheese sandwich everyday for lunch then your dinner should work as a counter balance for those. Even within the confines of sticking with your habit-dishes you should buy good bread for your sandwich and work in a quality juice instead of milk to change it up slightly. Even if you stick with the same old sandwich at your lunch buy a variety of fruits or nuts to pack along with that sandwich to ensure you’re getting a variety of nutrients. There is something to be said for having a routine that starts the day off right and you can count but you can make some changes on the periphery.
